In page 144 of the current November 2010 issue of CAR, you may have noticed two rather amazing shots of our long-term Nissan Cube. One is of the Cube in mid-air, all four wheels hanging slack as Jethro Bovingdon takes to the skies in our little white box. And the second, wince-inducing image, is of our Cube coming back down to Earth with a bump, its nose bearing the brunt of the impact.
How did we get the shot? With a very long run up â€" as our Cube takes an age to gather any sort of speed â€" and a lot of commitment, as the road that includes the perfect place to jump a car is tight and twisty so you have to carry a lot of speed through the corners.
Result? Jethro’s first run doesn’t get the Cube off the ground. Run two sees the wheels break contact with the tarmac, but not enough to make photographer Mark Fagelson happy. Third time lucky then, and our Cube takes off, only for gravity to bring it back down to earth with a sickening thump. Job done.
